Capture efficiency of four chamber designs for measuring ammonia emissions

Ammonia (NH3) emissions are an economically and environmentally significant loss pathway of fertilizer soil-derived N. Chambers a commonly used method to quantify NH3 in plot-scale agricultural research. Although this is widely used, its accuracy may be influenced by the overall design chamber, components, interaction with environment. Four chamber designs, including open, open + polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), semi-open, closed, were deployed over dilute solution for 6 h on four dates determine effect capture efficiency. The volume concentration measured before after acid trap deployment, total volatile emission was assumed equal mass N loss. efficiency relative estimated greatest (12.9%), whereas semi-open least efficient (3.5%). closed reduced designs inhibiting convective gas transport beneath footprint.
